FAQs
What is the Corolla Adventure Park?
Imagine a giant jungle gym made of rope and wood in the sky! Participants are able to choose from a range of obstacles ranging from 12 - 50ft high. There are 12 courses total, ranging from beginner to ninja warrior levels, allowing climbers to choose their challenge level. During the climb, participants may choose to take an 80' zip line back to the central tower, which offers another type of thrill. Course guides provide supervision, pointers, and physical assistance when necessary.
Do I Have to make Reservations?
We strongly recommend reservations. The beach is busy this year and we are frequently booking up several days in advance. Walk-ins are taken when we still have space on a first come first serve basis. The only way we can guarantee you will get a spot is with an advance reservation. All of our availability is visible online and can be booked on the website or over the phone. Payment is required at the time of booking.
Are There Height, Age or Weight Restrictions?
Participants must weigh less than 260 lbs
There is no minimum age but we recommend 4+ yrs.
For the "First Level Pass" participants must be at least 3'4'' tall. All participants who are under 4' tall must participate with a buddy who is 4' or taller on a 1:1 ratio.
For the "Full Access Pass" participants must be at least 4' tall. All participants who are under 5' tall must participate with a buddy who is 5' or taller anywhere above the first level. This must be a 1:1 ratio within your party.
How Long is the Pass Good For?
Each pass is valid for a 2 hour climb. Fear not! This is more than enough time to accomplish your goals at the park. We alot an additional 30 minutes of our own time at the beginning of your climb to get you properly suited up and taught the rules before your 2 hours even begins. Expect to be at the park for up to 3 hours start to finish, if you can last that long ;)
Can I Just do the Zip Lines?
No. You must complete at least 3 obstacles in order to reach the zipline in the center of the course. There are 2 ziplines on each level that are reached via easy, intermediate, or difficult obstacles. With so many options to move through difficulty levels that appeal to you, it’s almost always possible to create an adventure that you are looking for!
What is the Difference in the Passes Offered?
Corolla Adventure Park is comprised of 4 different levels of obstacles. The ‘First Level Pass’ allows access to level 1. This level offers 3 loops of obstacles and 2 zip lines. The ‘Full Access Pass’ means climbers can work their way beyond level 1 to anywhere they are comfortable. Climbers must complete the first level as a part of the full access pass to get acquainted with the gear and systems before moving up or upgrading their pass.
What Do I Wear?
Closed toe shoes that will stay on your feet (crocs need not apply). Forgot your shoes? Don’t worry, we have some rentals. Wear clothing that you are comfortable being active in that is appropriate for whatever weather we may be experiencing at the minute. Keep in mind you will warm up very quickly as you climb, but that if it is a windy day in the Spring or Fall that it can be cooler at elevation. NO BATHING SUITS. You must have at least a shirt and shorts on. Also NO SKIRTS. You will have a full body harness on with leg loops that are not compatible with skirts. That said, we recommend at least a little bit of length on those shorts ladies and gentlemen.. Harness straps are not very comfortable on bare skin. So if your shorts look more like a bathing suit, we recommend something different.
Is There a Place for Spectators?
YES, and it’s free! We love having spectators and cheerleaders at the park. We have a nature trail that loops around the park and has picnic tables and shade canopies scattered all along it. We offer some free games for spectators such as giant Jenga, corn hole, and ping-pong. Grab a beverage or snack from our Snack Shack and enjoy the experience!
What Happens if I Get Stuck or Can’t Finish?
We think you CAN finish and our guides will do their best to coach you through the limits of your comfort zone. But sometimes we do find our limits. When that happens our guides get to do what they love and train for most. Rescue time! We have specialized gear that enables us to get you where you really want to go, either back to the tower or even a controlled lower straight to the ground.
Is Axe Throwing Included?
Axe throwing is a separate activity with a separate pass. If you are stoked on doing both activities, be sure to book according to the time limitations on both. Please see our axe throwing page for details on that activity and you can find all pricing by clicking any of the “book your adventure” links.
Can I Bring a Phone or Camera on the Course?
No. This is your time to unplug from the matrix and for many reasons we do not allow devices on the course. Also, your spectator friends and family are 100% welcome to capture your experience from the ground. We have a nature trail around the park that offers panoramic views of the climbing.
There will be 4 opportunities to take photos of you and your crew using out participant-operated camera system!
Is It Safe?
We take every precaution possible to make sure you have the best experience on your climb. Our guides are trained and certified by industry professionals and do continuously reinforce their skills. They are similar to lifeguards who spend their time monitoring and coaching and are ready to assist if needed. You will be wearing a full body harness and helmet (gloves recommended but not required). The course receives a full inspection every day. When climbing you are locked into our continuous belay system and will never clip or unclip yourselves (our trained guides will do that on the tower). Our ground school (listen carefully) covers everything you need to know for the best climbing experience. That said, this is an active and strenuous activity that does have inherent risks. Small bumps and bruises do happen and are a part of climbing. These can mostly be avoided if you follow instructions from ground school. More extensive injury is rare but possible and we suggest consulting your physician if you have questions about your health or ability before coming. Also, our insurance does not permit anyone who is currently pregnant to climb.
